Hazardous areas are zones which the atmo-
sphere may become explosive.
EN 60079-10-1/EN 60079-10-2 and all other
well-known standards rank hazardous areas
according the likelihood the occurrence
of explosive atmosphere into the following
zones:
Hazardous areas due explosive gases,
vapors and mists:
Zone 0
Area which explosive gas atmosphere
is present continuously, for long periods or
frequently.
Zone 21
Area which explosive dust atmo-
sphere due dust/air mixtures likely to
occur occasionally during normal opera-
tion.
Hazardous areas due explosive dust/air
mixtures:
Zone 20
Area which explosive dust atmo-
sphere due dust/air mixtures present
continuously, for long periods fre-
quently.
