air-termination systems, down-conductors and the
earthing system. With these components able to
perform the functions required it, namely intercept-
ing direct lightning strikes, discharging the lightning

2.1 Air-termination systems
Air termination systems are the part the lightning
protection system that protect the building structure
from direct lightning strikes.
Air-termination systems can comprised any com-
bination the following components:
• Air-termination rods (including free-standing rods)
• Catenary wires
• Meshed conductors
