These days most households have lots domestic appliances and electronic
equipment, how many sockets should installed? Ultimately this a
matter for the customer and the electrical designer but most consumer orga-
nizations, the house builders NHBC and the Royal Society for the Prevention
of Accidents (ROSPA) make the following general recommendations:
● The hard wiring for single socket outlet the same the hard wir-
ing for double socket outlet.
● Sitting rooms will require between six and ten double sockets with
one double socket situated next any telephone outlet power
telecommunication equipment and two double sockets adjacent to
the aerial outlet for TV, video and DVD supplies.
● Home Office six double sockets.
● Garage two double sockets.

● Utility room two double sockets.
● Kitchens will require between six and ten double sockets, fitted both
above and below the work surface for specific appliances.
● Hallways two double sockets with one situated next any tele-
phone outlet.
