The tests carried out for the various degrees protection
are given the British and European Standard 60529. 13.1.2
European Commission safety mark.4. does not necessarily cover safety unless the appropriate British
Standard specifies safety requirement. This means that the British Standard harmony agreement with
the European Standards.1
BSI kite and safety marks.
British Standard numbers begin followed number and date of
issue, for example: 7671: 2008 the latest IEE Wiring Regulations pub-
lished the year 2008.
The BSI has created two important marks safety, the BSI kite mark and
the BSI safety mark, which are shown Fig.

Key Fact
IEE Regulations
● They are the National Standard
for electrical work.
The BSI safety mark guarantee the product’s electrical, mechanical
and thermal safety.
The code written (Index Protection) followed two numbers
XX. The second number gives the degree of
protection against water penetration.
● Comply with the IEE Regulations
and you will also comply with
statutory regulations and the law
(IEE Regulation 114). does not guarantee the product’s performance. These standards apply all countries the EEC,

The BSI kite mark assurance that the product carrying the label has
been produced under system supervision, control and testing, and can
only used manufacturers who have been granted licence under the
scheme.5 tells that where barriers and enclosures have
been installed prevent direct contact with live parts, they must afford a
degree protection not less than IP2X and IP4X, but what does this mean?
The Index Protection code which gives means specifying the
suitability equipment for the environmental conditions which will
be used.

The mark gives the manufacturer the right sell the product all the
countries the European Economic Area. The first number gives the degree protection against the penetration
of solid objects into the enclosure. For example, piece equipment
classified IP45 will have barriers installed which prevent 1-mm diam-
eter rigid steel bar from making contact with live parts and protected
against the ingress water from jets water applied from any direction. The mark applied the manufacturer after carrying out the
appropriate tests ensure compliance with the relevant safety standards.
designer contractor needs sure that the materials are suitable for
their purpose and offer degree safety, and should only use equipment
which carries the appropriate British Standards number. All electrical products used by
electrical contractors after January 1997 must bear the mark.2) not quality mark, but indication given the
manufacturer importer that the product system meets the legal safety
requirements the European Commission and can therefore presumed
