There were always plenty technical choices hand
because Edison's fertile mind was continually coming with
new ideas for experiments. The flood new ideas that emerged
from the laboratory the 1880s continued during the next
decade. This
knowledge was then applied other projects. Edison was interested everything and the

dividends the 1890s when many Edison products contained
small motors, such drills, fans, kinetographs, kinetoscopes,
medical equipment, and phonographs. This work had all the
criteria successful project Edison's laboratory: was
relatively simple with clearcut engineering goals, had many
applications, and did not require great expenditure test
and manufacture. After the first
kinetoscopes had been introduced, one the great difficulties
experienced was maintain constant speed the motor moving
the film through the machine. the first decade the West Orange laboratory,
Edison produced stream electrically driven machines and
spent years trying improve the regulation speed. Consequently shop order was
opened September 1894 build new motor. Edison was able exploit the economies of
scope motor development applying the laboratory's
expertise many different products and problems: the learning
by doing years research and engineering was easily
transferred. This general
problem had been solved the phonograph work; the new motor
was "walk-over" for Edison's men and important improvement
in the machine
