Part General principles
IEC/BS 62305-1 (part introduction to
the other parts the standard and essentially
describes how design Lightning Protection
System (LPS) accordance with the
accompanying parts the standard.
For period, IEC/BS 62305 and 6651 ran in
parallel, but August 2008, 6651 was
withdrawn and now IEC/BS 63205 the
recognised standard for lightning protection.

Introduction
The IEC/BS 62305 standard reflects increased scientific understanding of
lightning and its effects over the last twenty years, and takes stock the growing
impact technology and electronic systems our daily activities.IEC/BS 62305 Lightning protection standard
The IEC/BS 62305 Standard for lightning
protection was originally published September
2006, supercede the previous standard,
BS 6651:1999.

Structure IEC/BS 62305.
Key IEC/BS 62305 that all considerations
for lightning protection are driven complex
and comprehensive risk assessment and that this
assessment not only takes into account the
structure protected, but also the services to
which the structure connected.
It provides information for the design,
installation, maintenance and testing a
Lightning Electromagnetic Impulse (LEMP)
protection system (now referred Surge
Protection Measures SPM) for electrical/
electronic systems within structure. embodies what Annex in
BS 6651 conveyed, but with new zonal approach
referred Lightning Protection Zones (LPZs).
Part Risk management
IEC/BS 62305-2 (part risk management
approach, does not concentrate much the
purely physical damage structure caused a
lightning discharge, but more the risk loss
of human life (including permanent injury), loss
of service the public, loss cultural heritage
and economic loss. These four parts are outlined here.
Structure IEC/BS 62305
The IEC/BS 62305 series consists four
parts, all which need taken into
consideration.
More complex and exacting than its predecessor,
IEC/BS 62305 includes four distinct parts -
general principles, risk management, physical
damage structures and life hazard, and
electronic systems protection.
Part Physical damage structures and life
hazard
IEC/BS 62305-3 (part relates directly the
major part 6651.
Part Electrical and electronic systems
within structures
IEC/BS 62305-4 (part covers the protection
of electrical and electronic systems housed
within structures. essence,
structural lightning protection can longer be
considered isolation, protection against
transient overvoltages electrical surges is
integral IEC/BS 62305. differs from 6651 in
as much that this new part has four Classes or
protection levels LPS, opposed the basic
two (ordinary and high-risk) levels 6651.
