direct current system all rooms running from 3/8-inch wire. The line shaft the bottom part the
drawing (clearly shown the photograph) provided source power for other
dynamos which were brought into the building for testing and experiments. See (D-87-55) for additional correspondence.
The Edison Machine Works provided the laboratory with range the dynamos
in production the time:

This equipment was delivered with the switches, circuit boards, meters, and
regulators required set and run central station system.58 Batchelor dug
trenches the courtyard run underground cables from Building the rest of
the lab."67
Charles Batchelor installed this equipment and with the help several
experimenters began wire the laboratory complex. Underwood, October 21, 1887 (in 1887, WOL—Suppliers, General, D-87-

The two engines the power house ran series Edison dynamos which were
brought the laboratory December 1887.
Batchelor writes “now can begin work" October for example, and there are numerous other criterion
for marking the opening the lab.November 25, 1887, all engines had been installed, steam had been raised in
the boilers and the large brick chimney rising out Building was belching
smoke-work had begun the Edison laboratory West Orange.
