The motion picture benefitted immeasurably from the expertise gained the telegraph and phonograph work. The addition, and subsequent modification, a Geneva stop mechanism was major step developing reliable camera and projector. (See Sidebar 6-3, "The Black Maria.") Dickson had achieved some success taking pictures rapidly the film strip, but there were still mechanical problems the film feed mechanism which caused unsteady, flickering image. Another area which the mechanics made an important contribution was the synchronization film and shutter. was men like these who altered the feed provide a more positive movement that would not shift the film around at high speeds. The mechanics who worked with Dickson, chiefly William Heise, Henry Kayser, and the Ott brothers, had years experience the telegraph industry and were expert at the mechanics moving tape rapidly and exactly past an aperture. .(Illus 6-5, Dickson's drawing kinetograph operation.VI-39 a source electricity.) A special studio was built make movies with the kinetograph. The kinetograph was fitted with a start and stop switch and counter that showed amount film used. The kinetograph was the truly original part the motion picture system because although many had devised viewing machines, none had produced camera like this before
